BUILDING THE DC-8 PLANE
Page: 5 of 11
14 February 2014:I
looked for suitable materials to make the ceiling ventilation
diffusers. What I found was a screw with metal+rubber washer and a
pushpin. I separated the washer's rubber from the metal and glued the
pushpin inside. There will be 9 of them in total.
17 February 2014:
The
cargo deck walls... I drew the layout on the computer, printed on
sticky paper sheets, cut each panel separately and fixed on a common
cardboard sheet. There are many different compartment info and division
marks layouts, but I chose a pattern such that the writings would not
be seen from an angle similar with the reference photo.
Another
view from the rear. There are some irregular crumples here and there
that I made intentionally, since the panels do have dents in real. The
plane was new at the time of the event, so not many dents are expected
on the walls.
I made the left side walls too.
20 February 2014:
I made the imitation hinge covers and other accessories on the right deck service door.23 February 2014:
Now
the lighting glass manufacturing. I found a vinyl carrier sheet with
suitable texture, stuck it on the ceiling face, then applied hot melt
glue.
Removing the carrier sheet revealed a textured translucent material at the same level with the ceiling panel.
Testing how it disperses light. Pretty alright!
24 February 2014:
I applied vinyl folio sticky sheets, prepared on a cutter plotter on the ceiling panel.
Then I glued the 9 ventilation diffusers that I had prepared before.
A closer look at the diffusers.
25 February 2014:
I inserted the ceiling all the way in, through the reserved slots.
A shot about the angle of the original photo.
01 March 2014:
I painted and fixed the roller rails and stop locks on the floor.
02 March 2014:
I
made a fixing slab imitation for the sides of the cargo door opening. I
made rivet imitations with a toothed disc from the back side of
aluminum duct tape, cut a strip and fixed it on the inside panel.
06 March 2014:
I fixed two LED strips along the inside of the ceiling panel.
