BUILDING THE DC-8 PLANEPage: 11 of 11
30 September 2015:I prepared the door hook bars and their covers and glued in place.
I installed the lock hooks actuator and wiring; also the deck door lift hydraulic actuator and hydraulic hoses.
I finished the front door, making the glass with UV-curing nail builder gel.01 October 2015:I inserted the cargo deck door in place and fixed with 2-parts epoxy cement.
A view from the lower side of the fuselage with doors installed.
The manufacturing of the hinge for the cargo deck door. I formed from thin aluminum sheet, marked the rivets and painted.
Then I put a double-sided sticky tape under the hinge.
I fixed the hinge in place.
02 October 2015:
I
began assembling the base. First I installed the apron borders and
fixed walls for the side and rear of the plane. The wall for the front
of the plane will be installed after the plane is fixed on these two
walls. But before the plane is in place, the apron will have to be
finished. I used 10-mm thick balsa planks for the apron base. Fixing to
the metal is done by 2-part epoxy glue and screws from the bottom.
04 October 2015:
I
finished laying balsa planks and marked the square tiling of concrete.
I airbrushed the joining lines black to prevent any possible
reflections after tiling.
05 October 2015:
I
cut the tiles from 1 mm thick foamboard, and also 240-grit sandpaper
for surface effect. I sprayed two shades of grey primer on the
sandpaper tiles.
I
made an imitation of some crack in the concrete. I tore the sandpaper,
joined the parts by sticking on the foamboard and gave a black wash.
09 October 2015:
I finished the tiling for the apron. The yellow line is the plane parking guide line.
I installed the plane in place. This is the view without the side walls.
