11 July 2005:
Disaster!
I had painted the doors light gray and metallic blue (my first intention was to paint the car metallic blue), but I changed my mind to light green. So I had to take the paint off. Being stupid at that very instant, I brushed the paint off with cellulosic thinner, thinking what, I don't know. This is the result, with the paint and some plastic taken off! It took a good deal of time to (almost) restore the part.
14 July 2005:
I painted the car to light green (VW code L4SM), with acrylic paint.
I painted the door panels too. The loudspeaker and the tweeter were just some convex cast plastic, with no patterns so I went for adding some detail there. I countersunk the grilles inside the bezels, and added Bare Metal Foil.
The tweeter was too small to add any detail, so I applied a drop of silver paint inside the bezel. But for the speaker below, I painted a piece of cloth with silver and trimmed it to fit inside the bezel. I also applied flocking to the armrest.
16 July 2005:
Meanwhile, I trimmed the windshield of the New Beetle from the outsides of the sun visors.
I applied gray flocking to the floor.
17 July 2005:
I painted the dashboard. The decals of the kit were missing, so I created the speedometer on the computer, printed it on plain paper and covered with 6 clear coats.
As previously written, I had cut the pedals off from the skirt of the dashboard. I added a piece of styrene behind the lower dashboard and glued the pedals on that styrene slab. Now the pedals look like they are hung from behind the dashboard.
18 July 2005:
I finished the dashboard assembly. The tachometer was also drawn on the computer and printed, with 6 coats of clear.
24 July 2005:
I carved the seat belt locks from styrene sheet and finished the central console assembly.
25 July 2005:
I put the dashboard assembly in and finished with the internal.
26 July 2005:
I printed the Mini emblem on paper, had 6 clear coats and then glued it on a piece of styrene to make a massive emblem in the front grille.
I scratched a radiator-like pattern on a piece of styrene, painted it black and glued it behind the front grille to prevent the "engineless bay" inside to be seen.
I had sanded off the windshield washer nozzles and drilled holes. I painted headed pins flat black and pushed them inside to depict the nozzles.
